The day the month is allowed to end.
The close is a calendar event with a recap behind it, not a mood. You pick the day with us. On that day the file and the bank are supposed to describe the same stretch of time. If they do not, the recap says what is still open and the month does not pretend to be finished.
Uncleared checks are the piece that shows up when a lender asks. They stay on the reconciliation. An uncleared check stays until the bank clears it, or until you say the check is dead. We do not fold a stale check into income to make a difference disappear.
The feed will label a familiar amount as a sale because a rule once saw something like it. That label does not stand without a look. The odd lines come out on a short list. Each one gets a home or stays unmatched with a reason you can read without us in the room.
Draws, loan payments, and tax set-asides stay on their own lines. A category we use in January is the category in December. When the total moves, you can tell whether the business moved or the bookkeeping moved. That is the point of a close you can read on your own.
If the month includes wages, the provider setup is part of the same pass. We map the wage accounts and the deposits. You keep running payday. The close records the wages the provider already paid. It does not rerun them. A penalty letter can ride along. We will not promise relief. We line up the months named in the letter before anyone discusses what the letter wants. The recap carries the date you picked, so the month has a day and not only a mood.
