Setup, then the pay run stays yours.
Payday is already happening. The books are what fall behind it. Setup means the provider you run is connected to accounts in the file, the deposit rhythm is written down, and a closed month can show wages, taxes, and the net that left the bank.
Processing payday is not part of this practice. We do not hold the login that moves the crew's money if a separate login can type in the file instead. Registrations that belong at the start are part of setup. After the wage lines exist, the provider you chose is the one that pays people.
A new hire, a departed hire, and a bonus that landed in the wrong month are ordinary. The close does not invent a payroll department around them. It asks which pay date they belong to and whether the provider and the bank agree. When those two totals disagree, we leave a written flag on that pay date and the close waits for the match.
Owners who pay themselves through the same provider need the books to show wages apart from draws. Choosing an entity type is a different conversation. Showing what already happened is this one. The monthly recap keeps those lines apart so the return is not a single blended number.
If payday is a worry because a letter arrived, bring the letter when we open the file. Setup does not include a promise that a penalty disappears. It includes a file that can show what was paid and when, which is the only honest way to start that conversation.
